Before beginning a study of the Earth, it is important that we recognize some of historical challenges of studying geology, such as the abundant geological evidence that clearly points to an ancient Earth, which appears to be in conflict with some (in particular 20th-century) interpretations of Scripture, or the role of the Flood in geologic history.
